Elias papers, 1852 Apr. 14.

Four-page document, in Spanish, consisting of an award of land grants, by the Supreme Government of the State of Sonora, to 84 French citizens residing in the capitol "in order to repopulate with nationals or foreigners of friendly nations who profess our same religious beliefs, the towns and lands abandoned due to incursions by barbarians..." The French are to be provided land in the town of Cocospera as well as free horses, cows, sheep, farm tools, and more. The leader of the French colony was Don Carlos de Pindray. The document is signed by Joaquin V. Elias on April 14, 1852 at Ures, Mexico.
